The Bachelor of Arts degree inÌýEthnic Studies (ETHN)Ìýat the CU ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ is dedicated to centering the epistemologies, histories, and lived experiences of marginalized communities of color and Indigenous nations in order to challenge and critique all forms of oppression and to advance emancipatory, self-determining futures for all people. Ethnic Studies is an interdisciplinary field that is built upon four core disciplinary pillars of scholarship: Africana studies, Native American & Indigenous studies, Asian American studies, and Chicanx/Latinx studies. The major stresses the unique contributions and perspectives of each pillar, while training students to think and research across them in transdisciplinary and intersectional ways. The major draws upon the department’s strengths in engaged scholarship and culturally-sustaining pedagogy to examine how race and the interrelated categories of culture, ethnicity, indigeneity, gender, class, sexuality, religion, dis/ability, and legal status impact the past and present lives of people locally, regionally, and globally.

The Ethnic Studies major values research that makes a difference in our communities. ÌýIn Ethnic Studies courses student learn community empowerment through critical thinking, comparative analysis, oral and written expression, and keen understandings of social justice issues. In our increasingly diverse global society, the possibilities are limitless.

Admission Requirements

To graduate in a 4-year time frame, it is important that students follow the recommended schedule. Students who wish to continue their education at the community college beyond the number of credits specified below should explore with both community college and CU ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ staff how their graduation timeline, COF stipend, and financial aid will be affected.
