In addition to regular faculty and staff positions, the College of Music also hires the following positions on an as-needed, semester-by-semester basis.

Individuals appointed to these positions will be hired as a Lecturer if their appointment is below 50%.

Individuals will be hired as an Instructional Associate if their College of Music appointment is 50% or higher, or if they have multiple CU ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ roles that together reach 50% or higher. Once an Instructional Associate title is applied, an individual will be hired under this title in subsequent semesters.

Instructional Associate appointments are at-will, temporary and time-limited to three continuous calendar years. After three years, an individual can only be hired as a Lecturer (<50%) or as a regular faculty member.

Lecturers/Instructional Associates–Applied Lessons

• Faculty in this category provide applied lessons to music majors. Applied lessons are delivered one hour per week. Rates listed are per student per semester (14 weekly lessons plus one week of advising); contracts are prorated for appointments less than 15 weeksÌýand will be adjusted for fluctuations in student enrollment.

• Rates for applied lecturers fall into the following four categories (steps) and are determined based on a combination of factors: 1) performances activities (local, regional, national, international), 2) years of instructional experience, and 3) level of education. In rare exceptions, a Lecturer or Instructional Associate’s rate may exceed the categories below if they are exceptional in all three areas (performance activities, instructional experience, and education), and/or if they are trained to provide lessons in a unique discipline where collegiate-level instructors are in limited supply. Exceptions require Dean’s approval. Applied Lecturers and Instructional Associates may also be offered a flat per-semester fee for service hours, which may include juries, departmental meetings, etc. The range for this additional amount is $300-$600 per semester based on the level of service.Ìý

Lecturers/Instructional Associates–Lab or Seminar

• Lecturers and Instructional Associates in this category serve as the instructor of record for a 1- or 2-credit hour lab, seminarÌýor similar specialized methods or group repertoire coachingÌýin the College of Music. Rates listed are per lab/seminar, per semester.

Lecturers/Instructional Associates–Combos and Ensembles

• Lecturers and Instructional Associates in this category serve as the instructor of record for a combo or ensemble in the College of Music. Rates listed are per combo/ensemble, per semester. In exceptional cases, lecturers may be paid at a higher rate than the range listed for larger ensembles requiring more contact and services hours,Ìýand/or if they are trained to lead an ensemble in a unique discipline where collegiate-level instructors are in limited supply. Exceptions require Dean’s approval.

• Lecturers and Instructional Associates in this category direct or coordinate a component of an opera or musical theatre ensemble in the College of Music. Rates listed are per ensemble, per semester. Rates are established within this range based on complexity of the performance.

Lecturers/Instructional Associates–Accompanying

• Lecturers and Instructional Associates in this category serve as collaborative pianists providing accompanying as assigned to different constituents in the College of Music. Semester contract amounts are calculated using the ranges below and based on the assigned number of hours per week for a 15 week semester (contracts may be prorated for a partial semester). Rate is determined based on level of education and experience.

Collaborative Piano Post-Doctoral Instructional Associate

• Instructional Associates in this category have recently completed a DMA in collaborative piano or a DMA in solo piano with commensurate collaborative experience. These Instructional Associates gain professional experience in all aspects of running a collaborative piano program, they provide accompanying as assigned to the different constituents in the College of Music, and they may gain experience in classroom and studio teaching of collaborative piano courses. Rate listed is for a 9-month academic year appointment. Appointments are renewable for up to one year.
