FAQs
BuffET is a campus initiative focused on improving how we support students and work together across campus. By implementing Salesforce Education Cloud and expanding beyond the current Buff Portal Advising (BPA) model, the project will bring more student support teams into a shared platform designed to improve collaboration, coordination, and the student experience.
At its core, BuffET is about making it easier for students to connect with support and for staff to work together to help them succeed.
CRM stands forÌýConstituent Relationship Management. While that sounds technical, the idea is simple: it's a tool that helps us keep track of our interactions with students and better understand their experiences over time and across their entire journey at CU ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½.
For BuffET, CRM is about making it easier for campus partners to work together, share information appropriately, and provide more coordinated support. Instead of information living in multiple places, we'll have a more connected view of the student journey, helping us deliver the right support at the right time.
The goal isn't just better technology—it's helping us create a smoother experience for both students and the staff who support them.
CU ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ has committed to implementing Education Cloud, a product of Salesforce, to support the learner lifecycle. Specific decisions on how existing technologies are leveraged alongside Salesforce will be made at the appropriate times along the roadmap.
No. While BuffET includes replacing Buff Portal Advising (BPA), the project is much broader than a system replacement.
BPA has played an important role in supporting student success, and many staff have invested significant time and expertise in building processes that work well today. As BuffET expands to include more student support units and services across campus, we need a platform that can support a wider range of workflows, partnerships, and student experiences while allowing teams to work together more effectively.
The goal is not to start over or replace what's working. It's to build on that foundation by creating a more connected ecosystem that helps staff collaborate, share information appropriately, and provide coordinated support throughout the student journey.
At launch, Education Cloud will include the core functionality needed to support students and conduct essential work. Like any large implementation, it will be introduced in phases, and additional capabilities will be added over time based on campus needs and feedback.
As we move through future phases, we'll continue evaluating how existing tools fit within the broader ecosystem. Some tools may continue to play an important role, while others may eventually be replaced or integrated into the new platform. Those decisions will be made through ongoing discovery, partnership with campus stakeholders, and careful consideration of user and student needs.
Yes. Education Cloud is designed to support a wide range of campus needs through configurable functionality. Before each implementation phase, we are working closely with participating units to understand their goals, workflows, and student support practices so the solution can be configured to meet those needs.
At the same time, some level of standardization is important—not because every department serves students in exactly the same way, but because students often interact with multiple offices throughout their CU experience. Shared approaches to things like data, reporting, and key processes help us better understand the student journey, coordinate support across teams, and identify opportunities to improve services.
The goal is to strike the right balance: supporting the unique work of different departments while creating enough consistency to improve collaboration, visibility, and student outcomes across campus.
Because implementation will occur in phases, not every requested feature or customization will be available immediately. Priorities will be guided by project scope, timing, and the potential benefit to students and staff, with additional capabilities evaluated as the platform evolves.
The goal of BuffET is to help us create a more connected, supportive, and personalized experience for students throughout their CU journey.
Today, information about a student's experiences and interactions is often spread across multiple systems and offices. By bringing key information together, staff can have a more complete understanding of a student's needs, helping them provide timely support, make informed referrals, and connect students with the right resources when they need them.
The project also aims to make it easier for student support teams to collaborate across campus. When staff have access to consistent information and streamlined tools, they can spend less time navigating systems and more time focusing on what matters most—supporting students.
Just as importantly, student information will continue to be protected through role-based access and established security practices. Staff will only have access to the information needed to perform their responsibilities, helping ensure sensitive data remains secure and appropriately managed.
Staff can provide feedback to their functional area representative(s) on the CRM Strategy Cross-Functional Leadership Implementation Team. All members of the CU ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ community can sign up for the project newsletter, attend demo meetings or Q&A sessions, and sign up to test out the system and share feedback. See the BuffET website’s Stay Informed section for more information.
We know most people aren't looking for a product demo—they want to know,Ìý"What will this look like for me?"
Before your team goes live, you'll have opportunities to see the system in action through role-specific demonstrations and real-life examples of common tasks and workflows. You'll be able to see how the system supports your work, ask questions, and build familiarity before the transition.
If you're interested in seeing the platform sooner, you can also attend one of the system demonstrations linked at the bottom of this page. These sessions offer a preview of the solutionÌýwhile it is still being developed and refined, so what you see will evolve as requirements are finalized and feedback is incorporated.
Our goal is to give you a clear picture of the experience before go-live, along with the training, resources, and support needed to feel prepared and confident using the new system.
Salesforce Education Cloud will be rolled out in phases, beginning with Continuing Education, Online Programs, and current Buff Portal Advising (BPA) users. Additional user groups will join the platform over time.
Rollout timing will be planned in partnership with each user group. We understand that teams have busy periods throughout the year—including registration, orientation, and peak advising seasons—and we want to be thoughtful about how implementation fits alongside the important work already happening to support students.
The goal is to give teams as much notice as possible, along with the training and resources needed to feel prepared and supported throughout the transition.
You'll have access to training and support in multiple formats—not just a single training session. Resources will include a Canvas training site with step-by-step guides and short video tutorials, as well as instructor-led training opportunities before go-live.
You'll also be supported by office hours, hands-on learning opportunities, and a network of Adoption Leads who can help answer questions and support their functional units throughout the transition.
Our goal is to make sure you have the resources and support needed to feel prepared and confident using the new system.
